The Chicago Bears’ biggest offseason addition was wide receiver DJ Moore, who should be instrumental in quarterback Justin Fields’ development in Year 3.
In fact, general manager Ryan Poles insisted Moore be part of the package in sending the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL draft to the Carolina Panthers. And for a good reason.
Moore gives Fields the No. 1 wide receiver he hasn’t had in Chicago, and the pair already have a strong connection that should translate into production in the passing game.
Backup quarterback P.J. Walker, who played with Moore in Carolina last year, knows a little something about that. Walker explained exactly what makes Moore a quarterback’s best friend.
“He’s an easy target to throw to,” Walker said Thursday. “You’ve just got to put the ball around him. That’s something I really stand on, just putting the ball around him and letting him go out there and make plays. You can throw it high, throw it low, he’s gonna go out there and make a play for you.”
That’s something Fields hasn’t had during his two seasons with the Bears. And entering a year where he needs to prove himself as a passer, having Moore out there will be a huge asset.
“He’s one of those guys that you’ve got to find out there on the football field,” Walker said. “If a play is called for him and he’s partially covered, you can still give him an opportunity to go make that play.”
