Pistons sign first-round pick Jalen Duren to rookie contract

The Pistons acquired the rights to Duren on Wednesday from the Knicks in the trade involving Kemba Walker.

Former Memphis center Jalen Duren on Thursday signed his rookie-scale contract with the Detroit Pistons, the team announced.

He is slotted to earn $3,436,900 next season as the 13th pick.

Duren was named the AAC Freshman of the Year last season after averaging 12 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and 1.3 assists. He became the fourth freshman since the 2010-11 season to record 20 points, 19 rebounds and five blocked shots in a game on Nov. 19.

The Pistons acquired the rights to Duren on Wednesday, the first day on which deals could be made official. Detroit agreed to trade a 2025 first-round pick to the New York Knicks on draft night for Duren and Kemba Walker, who is expected to be waived.

Duren, along with No. 5 overall pick Jaden Ivey, each represent a big part of the future in Detroit. The two are expected to compete in the Las Vegas Summer League when the Pistons begin their schedule on Friday versus the Portland Trail Blazers (12 a.m. EDT).
