Pistons’ Saddiq Bey attributes hot-shooting start to hard work, reps

The 19th overall pick ranks fifth among all rookies in 3-point percentage to start the season with the Pistons.

Detroit Pistons rookie Saddiq Bey has enjoyed a hot start shooting the ball to begin his NBA career and the 19th overall pick believes it is a byproduct of hard work and plenty of repetitions in the gym.

Bey has connected on 25 3-pointers through his first 10 games with the Pistons, which was tied with Tyrese Haliburton for the most among all rookies. The 25 made 3-pointers by Bey and Haliburton are tied for the third-most in history over the first 10 games of a career.

On the season, Bey is shooting 43.1% (25-of-58) from 3-point range, which ranks sixth among rookies. He attributes his hot start beyond the arc to the hard work put in while preparing for the NBA.

“I always try to be confident in my ability and work ethic,” Bey said on Friday. “My sophomore year of college, they changed the lines back to a little bit further so I had to adjust to that. How I adjusted was just keep getting reps up and more arc, stuff like that. Coming here, the same thing: I had to get more reps, more arc and just continued to work on it.”

Rookie players often face a tough transition to the NBA with the longer 3-point line, but, certainly, Bey has had no issues with that challenge. He has emerged as an important player off the bench and represents a key part of the future in the Motor City.
