Detroit Pistons rookie Killian Hayes is doubtful to play versus the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday with a right hip strain, according to the official NBA injury report.
Hayes suffered the injury in the third quarter on Monday night against the Bucks and was later ruled out of returning to the game. He endured the injury when he appeared to defend a layup but instead fell to the court in visible pain while grabbing his right leg.
Pistons head coach Dwane Casey said after the game that the medical staff believed it was a hip flexor injury and that Hayes would undergo an MRI on Tuesday to confirm it. With the Pistons not completely ruling Hayes out on Wednesday, the injury appears to be less severe than initially thought.
Hayes previously suffered a sprained right ankle when he left the Pistons’ game early on Dec. 29. He did not miss any time with the injury and has appeared in each of the team’s seven games to this point, starting in each contest.
The seventh overall pick is averaging 4.6 points and 3.6 assists this season.
