Pistons’ Jalen Duren could miss Paris game because of a passport issue

The NBA will play its first game in Paris since 2020, but the Pistons rookie may not be able to suit up in the contest.

The NBA is returning to Europe for the first time since 2020 as the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons will play in the second regular-season game in Paris, France.

The two teams arrived in the French capital on Monday ahead of their matchup on Thursday at Accor Arena. They have already started participating in fan-engagement events and have taken in some of the sights in Paris as part of their trip.

The Pistons visited the Eiffel Tower on Tuesday and took a team photo in front of the landmark. Much of the roster was pictured, but it had one glaring omission: rookie Jalen Duren. That’s because the 13th pick reportedly misplaced his passport and was unable to join the team on their flight, according to James Edwards III of The Athletic.

Duren has missed the past five games with the Pistons due to an ankle injury but was trending toward playing in the contest. The team hasn’t released its injury report, though, so it remains to be seen if Duren will be ready to go even if he can join the team.

The 19-year-old is averaging 7.7 points and 8.5 rebounds on 63.4% shooting from the field. His 332 rebounds lead all rookies and are the third-most through 39 career games in team history. He is also tied with Walker Kessler for the most double-doubles among rookies (8).
