Detroit Pistons rookie Cade Cunningham will not play on Thursday at home versus the Memphis Grizzlies due to a right hip pointer, head coach Dwane Casey said prior to the contest.
Cunningham initially suffered the injury on Feb. 1 in a loss against the New Orleans Pelicans. He has missed the past four games due to the injury but has been seen shooting with the team. Casey has said previously it is not considered to be serious.
“I don’t think he is going to be able to go tonight,” Casey said. “He is still sore but, like I’ve said, everybody is sore this time of year. He is out tonight so we’ll go from there.”

Cunningham last week was named the NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month after averaging 17.3 points, 5.6 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.1 steals in January. He led all first-year players in scoring and became the sixth Pistons rookie to win the award.
The Pistons have taken a cautious approach to injuries in the past with Cunningham. The team plays the Grizzlies on the front-end of a back-to-back so it is not certain if Cunningham will be able to play on Friday against the Charlotte Hornets.
