PHOTOS: Highlights from Jac Caglianone’s 2023 campaign

Florida’s Jac Caglianone gave the Gators some serious Shohei Ohtani vibes in 2023.

One of the biggest surprises for Florida baseball during the 2023 regular-season campaign was the emergence of two-way player [autotag]Jac Caglianone[/autotag], who exploded on the scene both on the mound as well as at the plate. While he looked solid during his freshman campaign last spring, the Tampa, Florida, native took the college baseball world by storm this time around.

Sure, Cags experienced some up-and-downs on the bump, but he consistently slugged throughout the season, and in doing so, has already set the school record for most home runs in a season — supplanting Matt LaPorta’s previous mark with 28 dingers and still plenty of baseball left to play.

The sophomore managed to maintain a .350 batting average, walking 13 times while striking out 40; he ripped 13 doubles and three triples en route to a .816 slugging percentage while getting on base at a tidy .408 clip. On the mound, he put together a 3.96 ERA over 61 1/3 innings for six wins and a pair of losses while keeping his opponents at bay with a cumulative .174 batting average against.

Caglianone did leave something to be desired with the glove, recording a .972 fielding percentage, notching 120 putouts and 22 assists while getting charged with six errors.
