Florida baseball earned a trip to the 2023 College World Series Finals on Wednesday with yet another nail-biting win to stay perfect at Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska. This time, the Gators fended off the Texas Christian Horned Frogs in the semifinal round, 3-2, thanks to some late-inning heroics.
All three of Florida’s wins this past week have come by a single-run margin, with Kevin O’Sullivan out-foxing the opposition to seize victory from the jaws of defeat. This time, he helped navigate a rough start by Jac Caglianone that resulted in an early run — but could have been much worse.
The championship-winning manager also played chess with his bullpen, making solid decisions that helped keep TCU from crossing home plate until the eighth inning. Despite going into the ninth tied at 2-2, the Gators used a leadoff double by Tyler Shelnut to ultimately score the winning run. SEC saves leader Brandon Neely closed the door in the ninth, securing the trip to the next round.
