Phoenix Suns at Washington Wizards odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Phoenix Suns at Washington Wizards NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Phoenix Suns (7-3) are in the nation’s capital Monday for a 7 p.m. ET game with the Washington Wizards (2-8). Below, we analyze the Suns-Wizards NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Phoenix earned an impressive road win vs. the Indiana Pacers 125-117 Saturday. The Suns moved the ball better than the Pacers, throwing 33 assists to Indiana’s 23 and committing just three turnovers. Phoenix SF Mikal Bridges scored a game-high, and career-high, 34 points on 12-for-18 shooting (6-for-8 from behind the arc) vs. the Pacers.

The Wizards snuck in the backdoor with a plus-13-point fourth quarter in a 128-124 home loss to the Miami Heat as 6.5-point underdogs Saturday. Washington was without PG Russell Westbrook and the NBA’s leader in points per game in SG Bradley Beal.

These teams split last season’s meetings with each winning and covering a game apiece. Phoenix SG Devin Booker had 27 points in both of the Suns-Wizards games last season and Beal put up 32 points in the only meeting he played in (a 140-132 Wizards win Nov. 27, 2019).

Suns at Wizards: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Suns 121, Wizards 109

Money line (ML)

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE. Laying -275 with the Suns or any NBA team in the regular season is a no-go for me.

Phoenix is the right side here because it needs to rack up wins in a competitive West and newly acquired PG Chris Paul will make sure the unproven Suns aren’t overlooking the Wizards regardless of their opponent’s situation.

Against the spread (ATS)

GIMME SUNS -6.5 (-110) for 1 unit. Phoenix is quietly one of the best teams in the league to start the season: 7-3 ATS, third in net rating and fourth in effective field-goal percentage.

The Suns exceeding bookmakers’ expectations by an NBA’s best plus-5.6-ATS margin is exceptionally noteworthy because of CP3’s cache and how Phoenix ended its regular season in the Orlando Bubble.

Let’s not forget that the Suns were a perfect 8-0 in the bubble and missed the play-in due to a tiebreaker but were expected to be a contender for the play-in tournament at the end of this season.

Well, it’s only been 10 games but, if Phoenix fell to the 7-10 seeds and had to clinch a playoff berth via play-in tournament, it would be a disappointment.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 230.5 (-110) is the play because even though we like Phoenix to win, and it plays at the slowest tempo in the league, Washington’s defense is that bad.

The previous four Suns-Wizards games have gone Over the total and all three of Phoenix’s Overs so far this season have come in the last four games. The Suns can put up points and if Washington isn’t going to provide much resistance, what’s stopping Phoenix from dropping 120-plus?
