Not every player wants to be a part of a rebuild, but receiver Phillip Dorsett just couldn’t wait to get to Houston when Nick Caserio took over as the general manager of the Texans.
Caserio had previously been the director of player personnel for the New England Patriots from 2008-20, and Dorsett had a chance to be a part of the organization from 2017-19 and experience Caserio’s influence.
“I knew once I asked for my release from Seattle that I would have a chance to be able to come,” Dorsett said. “Once he offered me the chance to come, I ran with it because I believe in him. I think that he has a great eye for talent, and he has a great football mind. I think he’s going to be able to do great things here if he gets the right pieces together and that’s the reason I wanted to be here.”
Dorsett originally started the 2021 campaign with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but was released from their practice squad at the end of September. The former Indianapolis Colts 2015 first-round pick remained with the Seahawks organization for the next two months until his release.
The 28-year-old wanted to get to Houston because he saw in the Texans a roster that had, “a lot of guys that fight.”
Said Dorsett: “I see a lot of guys that go out there and they play their butt off. Obviously, we don’t have a lot of guys that have the big names, if you want to say it, but we have a lot of guys that come together and they just go out there and they play really hard and they fight. They are making a name for themselves. That’s the kind of team I want to be a part of. A team that goes out there and no matter, no matter what happens we are going to fight every game and we’ll see what happens on the scoreboard.”
Dorsett caught two passes for 43 yards in his first activation for Houston in Week 15’s 30-16 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
