There was a lot of talk about Jalen Hurts the quarterback leading up to the NFL Draft.
The reality of the situation was that Hurts was bound to be used in a different role other than a pure quarterback within the confines of an offense early on in his NFL career. His ability to process coverage, anticipation and timing was too inconstant for it not to happen, considering his all-world athleticism and natural running ability from the quarterback position.
Late Friday night, ESPN’s Sal Paolantanio reported to ESPN that it is the Philadelphia Eagles plan to use Hurts—who they selected as the 53rd pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft—as a Taysom Hill-type like the New Orleans Saints did in 2019-20.
This shouldn't come to surprise to anyone at all, but the Philadelphia Eagles plan on using Jalen Hurts in a Taysom Hill role according to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio: #Sooners pic.twitter.com/RX5kIDHQDo

“… here’s what (Doug Pederson) texted back to me, ‘he has a great skill set that we can use as a quarterback and as a runner,'” Paolantonio reported about Philadelphia’s head coach.'”He’s tough, competitive and a proven winner. Will be a great addition to the quarterback room.’
“They plan on using Hurts just like Sean Payton and New Orleans use Taysom Hill to augment Drew Brees.”
Though that will more than likely be the role for Hurts as the Eagles have Carson Wentz signed long-term, Pederson reiterated after the selection that Hurts was drafted as a quarterback.
“I want to make a point here: First and foremost, Jalen Hurts is a good quarterback,” Pederson said. “He was drafted as a quarterback and he was a quarterback first. But he has a unique skillset. He’s a great runner, obviously. He throws well on the run. He has a unique set of skills that we’re going to take a look at as well as we keep developing this offseason and this advancement as we get ready for training camp.”
There is no sign of when NFL rookie camps or mini camps will begin.
