Phil Mickelson mentions Steph Curry as possible player for “The Match”

Watching Steph Curry and other celebrities and athletes compete in future editions of “The Match” would be cool to see.

Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry is the best shooter ever, but his golfing talents are being recognized by one of the best golfers of all time.

Phil Mickelson recently spoke with Arash Markazi of The Los Angeles Times about the success of “The Match: Champions for Charity,” which featured Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning defeating Mickelson and Tom Brady.

With the competition gaining record viewership — it is the most-watched golf telecast in cable TV history — Mickelson spoke about it continuing in the future. Brady and Manning added a zest to the broadcast, and Mickelson mentioned Curry and other high-profile celebrities as potential future players for the competition.

“I think you could showcase guys like Steph Curry and Michael Jordan or Tony Romo and Patrick Mahomes, who are all good golfers, elite talents and have great personalities,” Mickelson said, per Markazi. “Those personalities are going to come out with this event. Or you could have someone who loves the game and is competitive but is really entertaining like Larry David and Bill Murray. I think that could shine.”

During the match, Curry tweeted that he wants to participate in the third edition of the competition.

Curry is an avid golfer, and he signed a partnership in October 2019 with golf manufacturer Callaway. Curry played at the Safeway Pro-Am with Mickelson last September, and he has also competed in the Ellie Mae Classic.

With “The Match” drawing in casual sports fans, continuing to watch celebrities and athletes like Curry in future competitions would be cool to see.
