Tre’Davious White has gotten honor after honor for the Bills defense early this offseason, and now defensive tackle Ed Oliver joins him.
The Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) named Oliver to their All-Rookie team for 2019. Oliver notched five sacks this season, which led all rookie interior defensive lineman this season. He’s also just the second Bills rookie to have a three-game sack streak, joining Darryl Talley in 1983, the team announced.
Jordan Phillips led the Bills with 9.5 from the interior of Buffalo’s defensive line, while Shaq Lawson notched 6.5.
Oliver was selected with this ninth-overall pick at the 2019 NFL draft. Also joining Oliver on the PFWA All-Rookie team’s defensive line is the Jaguars’ Josh Allen, the Giants’ Dexter Lawrence and the 49ers’ Nick Bosa.
The Jets’ Quinnen Williams was the only defensive tackle selected ahead of Oliver at the recent NFL draft, going third overall. He was not named to the All-Rookie team.
Oliver was the lone Bills rookie to land on the team. Rookie running back Devin Singletary was beat out by the Raiders’ Josh Jacobs and Eagles’ Miles Sanders. Jacobs earned the outlet’s overall Offensive Rookie of the Year Award as well.
