PFF stat has Matt Ryan ranked as NFL’s fifth-best QB entering 2020

One PFF metric known as the Bayesian updating system shows Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan to be the No. 5 rated QB entering the 2020 season.

Pro Football Focus likes to look at football beyond basic statistics, often finding unique ways to highlight good or bad performances. One PFF metric known as the Bayesian updating system shows Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan to be the No. 5 rated QB entering the 2020 season.

This interesting take on player rankings “yields a career posterior mean and a posterior distribution (which describes the uncertainty) for each quarterback. This helps us to get better predictions compared to using just the data from last season.”

Take a look at where all 32 projected starters are ranked in the graphic below, as tweeted out by the PFF Falcons account.

The four quarterbacks rated ahead of Ryan are Patrick Mahomes (1), Russell Wilson (2), Drew Brees (3) and Aaron Rodgers (4).

As for NFC South newcomer Tom Brady, he’s ranked as the division’s third-best QB, but is still the NFL’s No. 7 rated passer on the list.  Meanwhile, Panthers starter Teddy Bridgewater is PFF’s No. 24 quarterback according to the Bayesian update system.
