The Carolina Panthers got one of the biggest steals in the 2020 NFL draft when they picked West Virginia safety Kenny Robinson in the fifth round at No. 152 overall, according to Pro Football Focus.
PFF had Robinson ranked as their No. 90 best prospect in the draft, so getting him as late as Carolina did represents great value.
Here’s what they said about Robinson’s game.
“While watching Kenny Robinson at West Virginia and in the XFL, one thing was apparent: he is a playmaker with sharp instincts. He made 14 plays on the ball at West Virginia and added two interceptions in the XFL. His range and angles playing deep safety are just beautiful.”
While Robinson does look best suited to play deep safety, the Panthers just gave Tre Boston a three-year contract extension and that’s a role he thrived in last year.
Figuring out where to play Robinson is a good problem for defensive coordinator Phil Snow to have. Robinson could see snaps at strong safety if the team decides to use their No. 64 overall pick Jeremy Chinn in the slot. We may see a lot of mixing and matching given the versaility of the defensive backs the team picked up.
