Heading into the 2023 season, there is a ton of talent on the Clemson football roster.
On the offensive side of the ball, Will Shipley is one of the best running backs in the country, and starting quarterback Cade Klubnik is expected to take the next step under center. On the defensive side of the ball, Tyler Davis, Barrett Carter, Nate Wiggins, and a few others project to be top performers in the ACC. However, of all the Tigers, one sits above the rest.
PFF recently released an article picking the best player on every ACC team heading into the 2023 season, with arguably the best linebacker in the country, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. earning the nod for the Tigers. Here is what writer Max Chadwick had to say about the Clemson star linebacker.
Trotter isn’t just Clemson’s best player, he’s the best linebacker in college football. He was the only Power Five linebacker in 2022 who earned 80-plus grades both as a pass-rusher and in coverage. He was second among that same group in both passer rating allowed (42.9) and open target rate allowed (47.6%). The son of former All-Pro linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Sr., the junior is living up to his father’s name and then some.
I said, arguably, Chadwick said he is the best linebacker in the country. It is tough to argue with that! Trotter can do it all at linebacker and will only improve in 2023.
Alongside Barrett Carter, the Tigers have the best linebacker duo in college football.
