Last season, the Miami Dolphins had enough talent on their roster to secure a winning season, however, they were unable to make the postseason once again.
After the season the team moved on from head coach Brian Flores and brought in a number of players who could potentially take Miami to the next level.
While the start of the regular season is still months away, analysts and pundits alike are assessing rosters across the league.
Earlier in the week, Pro Football Focus’ Ben Linsey took it upon himself to come up with the top-three players on each NFL team’s roster, and, for the Dolphins, he listed Tyreek Hill, Xavien Howard and Terron Armstead.
Here’s what Linsey wrote about the trio:
“The Dolphins have been one of the more aggressive teams in the NFL this offseason in adding talent for their young quarterback who is looking to prove himself.
Hill changes how defenses have to prepare for this Miami offense, and he’s capable of turning the mundane into the extraordinary on any given snap with his speed and twitchiness in the open field. Alongside Hill’s addition, Armstead should provide some much-needed stability in pass protection for Tua Tagovailoa. Armstead’s 3.8% pressure rate allowed over the last five years ranks second among qualifying left tackles, behind only David Bakhtiari. Both should provide significant boosts offensively for the Dolphins in 2022, just as Howard does on the other side of the ball.”
Howard has been a franchise cornerstone since arriving in Miami Gardens in 2016. Since entering the league nobody has had more interceptions than the former Baylor Bear. Even though Flores had a big hand in what the defense did over the last three years, Howard can still be just as effective with Josh Boyer being the top defensive mind in the organization.
Hill and Armstead are both entering their first season with the Dolphins after being acquired this offseason.
Hill is expected to have a bit of a drop-off statistically considering he’s going from Patrick Mahomes to Tagovailoa, but he’s still an extremely talented wide receiver. That’s not going to change.
Armstead is arriving as one of the top left tackles in the league when he’s healthy, so there’s a lot of pressure on him to help bring consistency to a group that was terrible in 2021. He’s recovering from offseason surgery right now, but he should be ready to go by training camp.
Linsey also listed Jevon Holland, Christian Wilkins and Jaylen Waddle as considerations for the top three. That trio of young players is extremely talented, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see any of them make the leap into this list before 2023.
