PFF: Josh Allen is NFL’s best at QB sneak

Pro Football Focus says Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the best in the NFL at the QB sneak.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen has proven his worth as a dual-threat quarterback since taking over starting duties for the team.

Maybe Allen isn’t the best runner of the ball, but he gets the job done, no doubt. With Allen’s legs, the Bills do have the best runner in one regard, though.

According to Pro Football Focus, no quarterback in the NFL has had more quarterback sneaks in the NFL since the 2018 season. Per the football analytics folks, on third and fourth down with a yard to go, Allen has converted 23 sneaks for a first down on 24 attempts. Both of those figures lead the league, not just the successful sneaks.

So teams know it’s coming, and still can’t stop it.

Allen gets knocked for his deep-ball ability and that has to improve in the 2020 season, but credit should be given where it’s due. Keeping the offense on the field is important, and sneaking the ball isn’t just an exercise in falling forward. Allen showed it takes much more than that to get a first down against the Cowboys.

But there’s a factor here that makes this number even more impressive. As a rookie, Allen only made 11 starts. He didn’t start the season as Buffalo’s starting QB and then he was injured, missing time. So, Allen leads this category, despite playing in less games than other signal callers in the league over that time.
