Pro Football Focus, like many, see room for improvement in the Buffalo Bills’ backfield. In ranking every NFL running back room head-to-head, the Bills, headlined by Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, slotted in at only No. 21 overall.
After slow production out of Buffalo’s running game in 2020, it’s not all that surprising.
Here’s the football analytics outlet’s breakdown on the Bills’ running backs:
There was talk about the Bills adding another running back to push for a starting job this offseason, but it looks as if they are going to run things back with Zack Moss and Devin Singletary in 2021. There are certainly worse running back tandems than that in the league right now.
Last season, Singletary ranked in the 89th percentile in missed tackles forced per rushing attempt, while Moss finished in the 62nd percentile. It’s an area in which both excelled in college. Moss could even earn a larger role in 2021, given his edge over Singletary’s size and ability as a receiver.
Early in the offseason, the Bills, namely general manager Brandon Beane, said a goal of the team this spring was to improve their rushing attack. As PFF notes, Buffalo did not add a running back to challenge for starting time. Not only that, the entire same offensive line returns as well.
Beane and the Bills are banking on some chemistry building to improve the rushing attack, as of now.
But on the bright side, the duo of Singletary and Moss are ranked much higher than a couple of divisional foes. The Jets were named the NFL’s worst backfield by PFF, and the Dolphins were second-worst.
But the Patriots take the top-AFC East spot at No. 14.
