Peyton Manning compares potential No. 1 pick Bryce Young to Joe Burrow

NFL legend Peyton Manning sees some Joe Burrow in Bryce Young, who is the current favorite to be picked atop the 2023 NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers.

Would the Carolina Panthers be cool with a 5-foot-10, 204-pound Joe Burrow?

On the premiere episode of ESPN’s On the Clock, former NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning evaluated University of Alabama star and 2023 draft prospect Bryce Young—and older brother had a pretty interesting comparison for the potential No. 1 overall pick.

“Burrow is kinda the guy that comes to mind,” the Pro Football Hall of Famer said. “Because of the, sort of, sixth sense in the pocket, the decision making, processing information quickly. And I’m not saying Bryce is gonna have that same success as Joe right away. But I think that instincts that Joe has, that Bryce has—the ability to beat the coverage, keeps a lot of plays alive—I love that.

“Recognition, processing, instincts—you see a little bit of Joe Burrow in Bryce Young.”

Other than their tape, Young and Burrow also share some similarities from their college careers. Both were national champions, both won the Heisman Trophy and both captured the Maxwell, Davey O’Brien and—funnily enough—Manning awards before reaching the pros.

Young is currently listed as the favorite, by multiple oddsmakers, to be selected atop the draft by the Panthers. And if that’s ultimately the case, he’ll have something else in common with Joe Shiesty.
