Peter Schrager gushes about Chiefs Isiah Pacheco: ‘he’s been lights out’

NFL Network’s Peter Schrager is a huge fan of Isiah Pacheco’s performances this rookie season.

Isiah Pacheco is winning praise from around the NFL, with the NFL Network’s Peter Schrager ranking Pacheco as the top rookie in his weekly ‘Fabulous Five.’

A seventh-round pick out of Rutgers, Pacheco had 11 carries for 63 yards in helping to key an impressive Kansas City Chiefs win at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night.

Schrager, a popular voice on the NFL Network, raved about the play of Pacheco and his impact on the Chiefs. He talked about how Pacheco is wearing the jersey number made famous in franchise history by Tyreek Hill.

On Tuesday morning, Schrager put Pacheco’s showing on Sunday night atop his weekly rookie performers and showed Rutgers football some love in the process.

“Sunday night I’m watching the game and there is this young man wearing No. 10 for the Kansas City Chiefs. And he’s getting the rock and he’s running hard,” Schrager said on the NFL Network.

“Do I love Isiah Pacheco! Look at him carrying dudes. Isiah Pacheco, every single time he touches the ball, he’s running angry. Look at this guy, he lowers the shoulder. I get so fired up for Pacheco.”

Pacheco, an All-Big Ten selection at Rutgers, has been a natural fit for the Chiefs in the backfield but also on special teams. His hard-running style has been helpful for the Chiefs throughout the season, but his versatility and speed have also been showcased.

Through four games, Pacheco has 28 carries for 140 rushing yards with a touchdown.

“And then the kickoffs, three kickoffs – 91 kickoff return yards. He does it all. He’s wearing Tyreek’s 10 and making that number proud. I’ll tell you this,  he’s on kickoff coverage, he returns kicks, he does punts. He runs the ball, he catches the ball and the Chiefs, who suddenly went to this power running team on Sunday against the No. 1 rushing defense in the league, have a lot to look for in this guy here, No. 10,” Schrager said.

“He’s No. 1 on my list. There’s no crazy highlight, there’s no wild story. It’s just Isiah Pacheco, a seventh-round pick out of Rutgers, stepping up for a team when they need him, and he’s been lights out.”
