Peter King says Redskins wouldn’t draft Tua Tagovailoa ‘in a million years’

King says that he feels certain the Redskins won’t draft Tua, and they’re trying to increase the trade value for their No. 2 pick.

Another day, another talking head giving his opinion on what the Washington Redskins should do with the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

We are now fresh off of the NFL Combine, where the Redskins dominated the news cycle after Ron Rivera reported that the team would meet with QB Tua Tagovailoa ahead of the draft. From there, the hot takes started flying, as many proposed that Washington would be better off drafting another QB, rather than DE Chase Young, who many believe is the most talented player in the draft.

This isn’t something that longtime NFL analyst Peter King thinks will happen. This week, he went on The Dan Patrick Show and dispelled these rumors as simply as he could.

“The Redskins aren’t taking Tua,” King said. “I can’t see it in a million years.”

So what’s all the buzz about? Whether or not you believe that Ron Rivera will ultimately decide whether or not he takes a chance on Tua, the rumors about it happening can’t hurt anything, as long as the sentiment is sound behind closed doors. By keeping their options open at No. 2, the Redskins are ensuring that teams who wish to trade up to draft Tua — ie. the Miami Dolphins — would have to negotiate with Washington, rather than the Detroit Lions at No. 3.

“Is it in their best interest to convince everybody that they might take Tua? Yes,” King said. “Then Miami may be forced…imagine this scenario. Imagine Miami trades a one and a two to go up to No. 2 to make sure they get Tua. Then imagine Washington trading back up with the Lions and getting Chase Young at No. 3.”

Sounds like a dream scenario, right? It’s crazy what can get cooked up when NFL fans are given time to tinker when trade machines and pre-draft scenarios. Buckle-up, because we still have eight weeks left of this type of speculation.
