Penn State is looking for a much-needed rebound this weekend as they play their final home game of the season. The Nittany Lions appear to be in good shape for that rebound with Rutgers coming into Happy Valley in Week 12, and Penn State is opening up as a solid favorite in the Big Ten matchup.
According to the opening line from Tipico, Penn State has opened as a 17.5-point favorite at home against the Scarlet Knights. To some, the line may feel a tad high given the recent struggles of Penn State’s offense over the past month and a half. Penn State has also failed to score 20 points in each of its last two home games against Illinois and Michigan. Rutgers is coming off a blowout at Indiana, but the line may be suggesting there is much more faith in Penn State’s defense to hold Rutgers at arm’s length than anything else.

Penn State is 6-4 against the spread this season. Penn State has dominated the all-time series with Rutgers, owning a 29-2 record against their regional rivals from New Jersey. Penn State won last season’s meeting in New Jersey, 23-7. Rutgers has failed to score more than seven points against Penn State in each of the last six meetings and has never scored more than 10 points against Penn State since joining the Big Ten in 2014 (Penn State won the first Big Ten meeting between the schools, 13-10, in 2014).
