It was another exciting weekend of college football, with all the teams ahead of Penn State putting another victory on the board. The Nittany Lions were off this week and could not help their US LBM Coaches Poll ranking themselves. Penn State fell victim to some big-time performances and fell one spot to the No. 8 team in the updated coaches poll.
There were not any significant marquee upsets that shuffled the poll. Even Georgia’s narrow 13-12 victory against Kentucky couldn’t pave the way for a new No. 1 overall team. The Texas Longhorns did, however, jump Ohio State for the No. 2 ranking after Texas dominated UTSA 56-7.
Tennessee’s 71-0 shellacking of Kent State, whom Penn State plays next weekend, caused the Volunteers to leap past the Nittany Lions, moving up two spots. Alabama, Ole Miss, and Oregon round out the teams along with Tennessee, right ahead of Penn State.
Penn State received the same number of votes (968) as Missouri and is tied with the Tigers at No. 8. USC, which also did not play in Week 3, dropped one spot to No. 11. New entrants into this week’s poll include Texas A&M and UNLV, which come in at No. 24 and No. 25, respectively.
The Big Ten did lose one team from the rankings, Washington, which dropped out after losing the Apple Cup to Washington State on Saturday. Michigan dropped one spot to No. 17, while Nebraska moved up two spots to No. 22.
