Penn State basketball to face ACC opponent in Madison Square Garden

Penn State will take part in a college basketball triple header iin Madison Square Garden this December. Here’s who they will play.

The first season of Penn State men’s basketball under new head coach Mike Rhoades will be here before you know it. The Nittany Lions now have a complete regular season schedule ready to roll with the addition of a non-conference matchup to take place in Madison Square Garden this December.

Penn State announced it will face Georgia Tech in a non-conference matchup in New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday, Dec. 16. The game will be played at noon and will air on Big Ten Network.

Penn State’s game with Georgia Tech is part of a triple-header of college basketball. Following the Penn State-Georgia Tech game, St. John’s will face Fordham in men’s basketball, and then St. John’s will face Villanova in women’s basketball to cap off the day.

The meeting with Georgia Tech will be the first between the two schools since a regular season contest in the Bryce Jordan Center in 2016 as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. With the ACC/Big Ten Challenge now put to rest, it is good to see Penn State find room on the schedule to play a team from the ACC. And to get a chance to play in the world’s most famous arena is always a highlight to the schedule when available.

Penn State ha enjoyed its opportunities in Madison Square Garden over the years. Penn State won the 2018 NIT the last time the Nittany Lions visited the arena.

The Penn State men’s basketball season tips off on Nov. 6 with a home game against Delaware State.
