Funk comes to Penn State after being a solid standout player in the Patriot League for Bucknell. Funk has plenty of experience to rely on after playing 32 games last season and being a solid contributor all around for the Bison. Funk was also a decent three-point shooter for Bucknell with 87 three-pointers made last season.

Role in 2022-23

Funk will be a valuable option off the bench for the Nittany Lions and he could get some decent playing time as well. Jalen Pickett figures to be the team’s top shooting guard, but Funk should be the first option off the bench when Pickett comes off the floor for whatever reason.

Funk could be used at other positions as well and should be counted opn to provide some three-point range off the bench. And if Penn State needs to use Funk as a starter at any point, there are certainly less optimistic options to go with on the roster.

The addition of Funk to the roster was a good one for Micah Shrewsberry as the bench depth improved in a big way.
