Penn State at Michigan odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Penn State at Michigan odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Penn State Nittany Lions (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) visit the Michigan Wolverines (6-0, 3-0) in a major top-10 clash Saturday afternoon. Kickoff from Michigan Stadium is at noon ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Penn State vs. Michigan odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Penn State is coming into this game after a bye week that allowed players to rest and get fully healthy for this big game. It also gave the coaching staff time to game plan for a strong Michigan team. Penn State beat Northwestern 17-7 in its last game, but many fans were unsettled by the amount of turnovers (5) and penalties (7) that Penn State committed.

Michigan is a strong favorite in its 4th straight game vs. a Big Ten opponent. The Wolverines are led by RB Blake Corum, who has 11 rushing TDs and is averaging 122.5 yards per game. QB J.J. McCarthy, has completed 78.3 percent of his passes (94-of-120) with 9 TDs and 1 INT.

Michigan is No. 4 and Penn State No. 10 in the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Penn State at Michigan picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 28, Michigan 25

Moneyline

AVOID

The moneyline here is too big a risk for me to advise you to bet one way or the other. While Michigan is favored heavily, I believe Penn State will actually come away with the win. With this being a big-time conference game anything could happen and Michigan is simply too big of a favorite to risk your money on them in this bet.

Against the spread

LEAN PENN STATE +6.5 (-102)

Whether Penn State wins or not doesn’t matter for this bet because either way I see it being your safest bet. Neither team will be able to win this game by more than a touchdown. It should be close the whole way through and it will likley come down to whichever team makes a mistake 1st.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 52.5 (-107)

Both these teams have very strong offenses and very strong defenses which makes this a hard call. With both schools having talented running backs and quarterbacks who aren’t liabilities, I lean with a higher-scoring outcome  because I don’t see either defense being able to hold the other team’s offense down for the whole game. Corum and Penn State RB Nick Singleton will both have to play well for this game to beat the over.
