Pelicans at Rockets: Prediction, spread, odds, over/under, betting picks

New Orleans (-2.5) is a tough team to get a consistent read on, since both their wins and losses in recent weeks have been by large margins.

The Houston Rockets play game two of a four-game homestand on Sunday night versus New Orleans, and if you’re looking to do some last-minute betting research, you’re in luck! We’ll give you the latest point spread, money line odds and over/under number, as well as the information you’ll need to make the smartest bet at Tipico Sportsbook.

The game tips off at 6 p.m. Central and can be viewed or streamed via AT&T SportsNet Southwest and NBA League Pass.

For the 2021-22 NBA season as a whole, the Houston Rockets (6-16) and New Orleans Pelicans (7-18) have two of the three worst records in the Western Conference. But that’s certainly not reflective of how each team has fared over the past two weeks.

The Rockets enter Sunday’s clash at Toyota Center with the NBA’s longest active winning streak (five games), while the Pelicans have won four of their last six — including a convincing win on Friday at Dallas.

Pelicans at Rockets notable injuries:

Both teams will be without big names on Sunday night, with New Orleans missing Zion Williamson (right foot fracture) and Houston missing both members of its prized young backcourt of Jalen Green (left hamstring strain) and Kevin Porter Jr. (left thigh contusion).

The remainder of the injury/status report for New Orleans lists Daulton Hommes (right fibular stress fracture) and Didi Louzada (league suspension) as out, and Josh Hart (left knee soreness) as questionable.

Houston will also be without rookie forward Usman Garuba (right thigh contusion) and veteran guard John Wall, who has yet to play in any games this season as part of a mutual agreement over the offseason.

Advice and prediction

Based on their inconsistency, the Pelicans are a tough team to get a read on. In three of their victories during this current run of four wins in six games, they’ve won by 16 points or more. On the other hand, in their two losses, they’ve fallen by 22 and 32 points. Going back further, each of the previous five New Orleans losses has been by 14 or more.

Even though Houston is on a long winning streak, their efficiency has clearly dipped without having Porter to run the show at point guard, as evidenced by a pair of very narrow victories over the Thunder and Magic in recent days. On paper, with Brandon Ingram leading the way, the Pelicans are a more talented opponent than Orlando or Oklahoma City.

Prediction: Pelicans 108, Rockets 103
