Paul Reed discusses trade deadline, how to earn playing time for Sixers

Philadelphia 76ers big man Paul Reed addresses how he handles the trade deadline and how he can earn more playing time going forward.

BOSTON — The trade deadline is rapidly approaching, and it is no secret the Philadelphia 76ers are looking for a big man before the deadline.

They have been linked to Jarred Vanderbilt of the Utah Jazz, Nerlens Noel of the Detroit Pistons, Naz Reid of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Andre Drummond of the Chicago Bulls.

If they bring in a big man, the question of what happens with Paul Reed arises. The third-year big man has been looking to earn more playing time, but he hasn’t been able to really break through.

Given the nature of how trades work, Reed could be thrown into a deal to make the money work. Therefore, he could be moved before Thursday’s 3 p.m. EST deadline.

“Taking it day by day,” said Reed. “I’m trying to concentrate on getting these wins.”

In this age when information, speculation and misinformation is at everyone’s fingertips due to social media, that can be a lot for players to handle. Reed isn’t focused on that. He is focusing on trying to win games in Philadelphia.

“I don’t let it affect me,” he added. “I try to go out every day and be the best that I can be and take it from there.”

In terms of how he can earn more playing time, Reed believes that is a pretty simple task for him to achieve.

“I just need to play defense,” he finished. “I think it starts on defense and bringing that energy on the defensive end, getting stops, and finishing plays on the offensive end, setting screens, and getting my guys open. Little things like that getting on the court.”
