Paul Finebaum still confident in LSU despite two losses

Many wrote this team off after it took its second loss, but the Tigers have made progress in recent weeks.

After the Tigers took their second loss of the season a few weeks ago to Ole Miss, many in the national media wrote this team off.

While there is quite an uphill battle for this team to get back into the College Football Playoff conversation, it has righted many of its wrongs after winning three games in a row, most recently shutting out Army in Week 8.

It may not have been the toughest opponent, but it gave Paul Finebaum some more confidence in this team, as he explained on a recent appearance on “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning.”

“A game like that gives you confidence,” Finebaum said, per On3. “Anybody that’s ever been on a defensive side of anything [knows] when you throw a shutout, it doesn’t matter who it’s against, you feel good. I think that’s a great feeling. You don’t want to go into a bye week beat up and battered. Instead, the schedule makers were kind to LSU, giving them a confidence builder and I feel good about this LSU team. I have all along.”

While Finebaum remains convinced this team is a contender, he doesn’t think the Tigers have the edge in a crucial Week 10 contest against Alabama after both teams take their byes this weekend.

“The FSU game was just you’re up against one of the top four teams in the country and you probably didn’t even realize it,” Finebaum said. “Ole Miss was a game that they could have won. Listen, that was just a high-scoring shootout and it’s a matter of making one last play, but I still feel pretty confident about LSU.

“I favor Alabama because I just really like what I’m seeing on the Alabama side. In a game like this at night, it is going to give Alabama a little more of an edge from the intangibles than they even had in the first half against Tennessee.”

LSU will look to make its final tuneups during the bye this week before a game against the Crimson Tide that could once again decide the SEC West.
