Paul Chryst on the details surrounding QB Jack Coan’s injury

Wisconsin’s head coach sheds light on the injury to the Badgers’ starting QB

In the wake of reports from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel surrounding a foot injury to Badgers starting quarterback Jack Coan, Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst confirmed the injury this morning during a press conference.

While the timetable for his return remains uncertain, Chryst gave additional insight into how Coan was injured during Saturday’s practice.

“It was a non-contact injury,” said Chryst on Monday morning. “He [Coan] is going to see a specialist, so we will know more in the coming days, and we will find out what all this means.”

Chryst added the injury occurred while Coan was dropping back in a practice rep.

While the Badgers wait on more medical information surrounding the starting quarterback’s non-contact injury, the team hopes to see their leader back as soon as possible.

“He is incredibly unselfish,” said Chryst when asked about how Coan is handling this unfortunate situation. “He cares about this team and does not want anything to affect the team in a negative way.”

As rising redshirt freshman Graham Mertz gets ready to take the reigns for as long as Coan is out, there is an added level of concern surrounding the position’s depth in a year marked by a global pandemic.

“You take it day by day. Not everyone is going to get equal reps,” said Chryst when asked about QB depth.”That applies to a lot of positions. Its going to be a very different year that way. You have one more factor that comes into play.”

We will keep you updated at BadgersWire when more details come out surrounding Coan’s foot injury, but for now the Badgers will have to move forward without their leader under center.
