Patriots Wire Podcast: Are Bill Belichick’s days numbered as coach/GM in New England?

Who is on the hot seat? Bill Belichick the GM or Bill Belichick the coach?

It’s never easy discussing change for an organization synonymous with winning football games. But it’s a discussion that can no longer be avoided after seeing the New England Patriots bite the dust in historically embarrassing fashion in Week 4.

Bill Belichick, the architect of the greatest dynasty in NFL history, continues to go about his job like it’s business as usual, but given everything that’s happened in New England in recent years, there is nothing normal about this current juncture for the Patriots.

It feels like they’re spinning wheels and getting nowhere fast. The Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills have surpassed them in relevancy, and the New York Jets, even with Zach Wilson as the starting quarterback, were a failed Hail Mary attempt from doing the same.

The personnel decisions have been questionable, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, and the coaching has been shaky in the first four games of the season. That begs the question: Is Belichick the coach or Belichick the general manager on the hot seat?

Ryan O’Leary and I delve into that topic in this week’s episode of the Patriots Wire Podcast. We also react to the J.C. Jackson trade, injuries to Christian Gonzalez and Matthew Judon and touch on the upcoming Week 5 game against the New Orleans Saints.
