Patriots take the high road after Tom Brady omits them from retirement announcement

Brady’s former team still paid tribute to him.

Tom Brady made his retirement official Tuesday with a post on Instagram that included a long list of thank yous.

However, fans noticed the thank yous were mostly heaped upon the team he spent the last two years with, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For the team he spent the previous 20 years and won six Super Bowls with, nothing.

No mention of the New England Patriots or anyone associated with the team.

It’s a stunning omission, but leaves open the possibility of a separate thank-you in the future. Given their unceremonious split, it’s possible he never intendeds to mention them.

Either way, the team took the high road on social media with a congratulations post that includes a graphic of Brady sailing into the sunset on a boat with a Pats logo and all seven of his trophies, including the one he won in Tampa.

Brady left the Patriots after the 2019 season, a year removed from their sixth title. He reportedly wanted more money and more input on personnel decisions, things head coach Bill Belichick apparently pushed back on.
