Ahead of his sophomore season, running back Rhamondre Stevenson has one particular goal in mind for 2022. The former Oklahoma star carried the ball 133 times for 606 yards and five touchdowns in 2021 for the New England Patriots, and he wants to build off that.
Stevenson served multiple roles at the running back position for the Patriots. Damien Harris served as the lead running back for the Patriots in 2021. When Harris ran into some injury issues later in the season, Stevenson was able to pick up the slack by filling the starting role.
As Stevenson told NESN’s Zack Cox, he wants to work on becoming a better pass-catcher, and run cleaner routes in conjunction with that.
“I think I’m going to work on my route-running a lot more this offseason,” Stevenson said Friday. “Just route-running for the most part, pass-catching out of the backfield.”
“I’m very confident and comfortable doing it,” Stevenson said. “I just need to sharpen up my routes and just be more consistent route-running and catching the ball out of the backfield. But I feel like I’m very capable of doing that.”
After coming into his own towards the later part of the season, Stevenson will have a prime chance to hit the ground running in 2022. Although Harris will still be the lead running back, Stevenson will have the opportunity to solidify the No. 2 role.
