Patriots LB Mack Wilson give tremendous praise to coach Jerod Mayo

Patriots linebacker Mack Wilson is excited to work with Jerod Mayo

New England Patriots linebacker Mack Wilson is excited to work with his position coach Jerod Mayo.

Wilson views Mayo in high regard. Wilson was unfamiliar with Mayo when he first arrived in New England. However, Wilson watched film of the former linebacker, and grew to like his style of play. Wilson also enjoys how Mayo coaches and his style of coaching seems to fit the linebacker will.

Wilson is looking to bounce back and become a focal point of the Patriots linebacking unit. He recorded 42 tackles in 14 games, in what was a little bit of a down year for him. He could have a chance to improve upon those statistics, as the Patriots search for a stabilizing veteran piece at linebacker, following the departures of Kyle Van Noy and Dont’a Hightower.

As for now, he is just looking to learn from a coach, whom he has the utmost respect for, as transcribed by Greg Dudek of NESN.com.

“Coach Mayo, I feel like to me, he’s a legend in my eyes,” Wilson said. “When he talks, I listen. I pay attention to everything he do, everything he talks about in the meeting room. Obviously with the career the he had here — you can ask any linebacker, it’s fun just having a coach who really played the game, who put the blood, sweat and tears into this same organization, and now he’s our coach giving us back tools, advice, gems and even coaching us at the end of the day. It’s a blessing.”

New England has many unknowns at the linebacker position. a solid season from Wilson could allow the Patriots to develop some of the younger players at the position, as the team continues to build for the future. the defense is undergoing a youth movement, and Wilson could be a key mentor in helping make sure it goes smoothly.
