Patriots G Cole Strange reportedly nearing a return

Some reinforcements could be coming for the Patriots’ offensive line.

New England Patriots second-year guard Cole Strange has not practiced in over three weeks, but that could change soon, according to a recent report from The Boston Globe’s Chris Price.

Strange has been absent from team drills since suffering a left leg injury during practice back in July. He didn’t travel with the team to Green Bay last week, and he was once again held out of practice at home on Tuesday.

His return would be a big boost for an offensive line that is struggling to stay healthy. Starting right guard Mike Onwenu has also been out with an injury.

“From what I’ve been told, fairly certain Strange will be back for Week 1…that’s why I had him slotted as starting LG,” Price posted on social media. “Onwenu, not so much. As BB has said (and I’m paraphrasing), you can’t just run around a track a few times and jump into playing. You have to get callused up.”

The New England offensive line has struggled throughout preseason. There’s hope that the return of Strange—and at some point, Onwenu—can get them back on track.
