Patrick Williams had never been to the city of Chicago prior to the NBA draft. Since the Bulls made him the fourth overall pick, though, the former Florida State forward has been learning firsthand just how cold it gets in the Windy City.

On Thursday, Williams addressed the media prior to the start of the 2020-21 season and provided some insight into how hectic his schedule has been since the night of the draft. From finding an apartment to adjusting to his new teammates, Williams, like all rookies, is going through a bit of a learning period.

The 19-year-old said things have calmed down a bit now since he has gotten to know his teammates, coaching staff and other personnel around the team facility. Now that he is getting to find his way around the team, the next step will be figuring out that winter weather.

“Before this, I had never been to Chicago,” Williams said. “It has definitely been different. The first thing is the weather, the weather is a big change. When I first got here, I had to get some winter coats but when I moved out here at first, my parents were here with me for about five days. When they went back, I kinda just leaned on the guys here and the vets here. Just leaning on those guys and trying to get as comfortable as I can around them and that will help me make the transition easier.”

Bulls fans may likely want to warn Williams that the worst of the winter weather is yet to come. The high in Chicago on Thursday called for 49 degrees while the temperature is expected to dip below 30 degrees in the coming days.

As for the on-court adjustment, Williams said he has been doing things across all positions on the floor and that could be a preview of how the Bulls plan to use him this season. He is unsure if he’ll start or not but said he will be ready once his number is called.

The Bulls begin preseason play on Dec. 11 vs. the Houston Rockets.
