Patrick Queen, reported target for Panthers, expected to sign with Steelers

Patrick Queen, who has been linked to the Panthers over the past 24 hours, is expected to sign with the Steelers.

You can throw away all those Queen/Queen City puns now.

As first reported by ESPN’s Marcus Spears, free-agent linebacker Patrick Queen has agreed to terms with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The second-team All-Pro defender is expected to sign a three-year, $41 million pact with his former AFC North foes.

Queen had been linked to the Carolina Panthers over the past 24 hours, beginning with a nod from Bleacher Report NFL insider Jordan Schultz on Monday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show. Joe Person of The Athletic backed up Schultz’s reporting, tweeting on Tuesday that Carolina was “in the running” for the 24-year-old.

Before trading two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Brian Burns to the New York Giants yesterday afternoon, the Panthers failed to retain do-it-all linebacker Frankie Luvu. Luvu is expected to sign a three-year, $36 million deal with the Washington Commanders.

Had the Panthers been able to nab Queen, the loss of Luvu would’ve been much easier to swallow. Alas, they’ve been left with just another sour taste.
