Patrick Mahomes not buying into Tom Brady comparisons

Patrick Mahomes gave an honest assessment of the GOAT debate with Tom Brady

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is not declaring himself anywhere close to Tom Brady, as the Chiefs get ready to play in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Chiefs will be making their fourth Super Bowl appearance in five seasons and are on the brink of a dynasty. Mahomes has racked up personal accolades during that timeframe. He is a two-time Super Bowl champion, two-time league MVP and undoubtedly the face of the NFL right now.

Even still, he is not ready to crown himself as surpassing Brady quite yet. Brady set the standard for greatness with seven Super Bowl titles and 35 playoff wins along the way.

Mahomes spoke to assembled media on Tuesday, and threw a wet blanket on any talk that he is the greatest quarterback of all time, per NFL.com’s Christian Gonzales.

“I mean, I’m not even close to halfway, so I haven’t put a lot of thought into it,” Mahomes told the media. “I mean, your goal is to be the best player that you can be. I know I’m blessed to be around a lot of great players around me. And so, right now, it’s doing whatever I can to beat a great 49ers team and try to get that third ring. And then if you ask me that question in 15 years, and I’ll see if I can get close to seven. But seven seems like a long ways away still.”

This is a debate that will rage on between fans for years to come. At the very least, we know where Mahomes sees himself, at least for now, in this particular argument.
