NEW YORK — The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to see what they have in third-year guard Jaden Springer as they continue the preseason schedule on Monday at the Brooklyn Nets.
Springer has only played 18 games in his NBA career. He has played mostly in garbage time, but when he has played, he has been able to show off his defensive acumen and athleticism. He has taken steps on the offensive end as well which should do wonders for him.
Veteran Patrick Beverley has made a living off being a pest defensively and being elite on that end of the floor. He has a lot of respect for what Springer brings to the table.
“Just how hard he plays,” Beverley said of Springer. “He reminds me a lot of myself actually. It’s just about improving in this league. It’s about year after year after year improving, keep building, and since I’m here, I’m gonna make it my duty to make sure he’s on top of his (expletive) every day.”
With that being said, Beverley is not the “rah-rah” type of player to really get into another guy’s ear. However, he will make sure the guys are improving. Springer still has a lot of growth and development to do and having a guy like Beverley around to help him with that growth as a player.
“I’m not the in the ear type,” Beverley finished. “I just kinda lead by how I prepare and attack the game, attack the game plan, and it rubs off on guys. Guys see it and I guess they adopt the same habits, too.”
