There’s been no official word from the team but through two days of minicamp practice, Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth hasn’t had a helmet. We don’t know the nature of the injury but Freiermuth played it off when he talked about it after practice.

According to ESPN NFL reporter Brooke Pryor, Freiermuth says he will be good to go by training camp. The Steelers currently have four quality tight ends on the roster with Freiermuth being the best of the group as well as the most experienced.

If we assume that Freiermuth’s injury is nothing serious, his absence could be a positive. The Steelers have a pair of young tight ends, Connor Heyward and Darnell Washington so any reps where Freiermuth doesn’t have a helmet are opportunities for those young players.

Freiermuth and quarterback Kenny Pickett developed a chemistry late last season and if you are looking for a breakout candidate in 2023, the big tight end might be the pick.
