Carolina Panthers receiver Robby Anderson is often a very cool, very even-keeled dude. So it takes a little bit of something to get him going.
Unfortunately, we’ve seen the frustrated side of the sixth-year wideout break through a few times in 2021. But, now, it’s been nothing but good vibes and some much welcomed smiles from Anderson since Sunday.
Robby told us about those vibes on Wednesday night, as he was featured on the latest episode of “Undefined with Josina Anderson.” He told his fellow Anderson that playing alongside quarterback Cam Newton means a lot to him and the team.
“Very, very, very impactful,” he said on the effect of Newton’s arrival.
“Personally, it’s like a dream come true. It was bittersweet. When I signed here, that was the day he got released. And ideally, any time I think about Carolina, I think of Cam. And that’s somebody I had looked up to and motivated by since high school. So, the whole I been here, I’d always ask DJ [Moore] and Curtis [Samuel] what it was like. So it’s really a blessing. I just really think it was meant to be for that to come about the way it did.”
That all came about this past Thursday, when Newton met and signed with the team seemingly out of nowhere. Anderson mentioned he and some of his teammates found out about the news through an update on Moore’s Apple watch during practice.
Anderson, who has struggled to get on the same page with his other passers this season (*cough* Sam Darnold *cough*), also says Newton brings a certain je ne sais quoi the Panthers have been lacking.
“It’s a receiver’s dream to play with a great quarterback and somebody that’s been to that level of where you tryna go at,” Anderson added.
“Just his energy, his personality, his aura—it rubs off on everybody. We kinda, we was kinda like missing that from the offensive side of things. We was missing that veteran leadership role.”
Welp, whether that was some shade or not—Anderson and the Panthers’ hopes have never looked brighter this season.
