New York Giants special team coordinator Thomas McGaughey reportedly met with one of his old teams — the Carolina Panthers — regarding their open special teams position.

In the end, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that things didn’t work out despite Carolina’s pursuit.

McGaughey, the Giants’ special teams coordinator since 2018, was the Panthers’ ST coordinator from 2106-17 before going the Giants under Pat Shurmur in 2018. He was retained by Joe Judge in 2020 and is still under contract with the Giants.

The Giants are in the midst of hiring a new head coach and have not made any decisions on assistants other than they are interviewing defensive coordinator Patrick Graham for their head coaching opening.

In the interim, the Giants appear to be willing to allow their assistants to seek outside employment should those opportunities arise.
