There will be no second tour for Thomas McGaughey and the Carolina Panthers.
According to NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo, the two sides were unable to “come to an agreement” for the team’s special teams coordinator position. The post opened up nearly two weeks ago when Chase Blackburn, along with offensive line coach Pat Meyer and defensive line coach Frank Okam, were fired by head coach Matt Rhule on Jan. 11.

McGaughey had previously served as Carolina’s special teams coach from 2016 to 2017. The Chicago native took over for Bruce DeHaven, who had been diagnosed with prostate cancer a year prior, in the lead-up to his first official campaign.
The Panthers’ 2017 unit performed well under McGaughey, as they finished 10th in Rick Gosselin’s annual special team rankings. Kicker Graham Gano was of particular note, banging through 29 of his 30 field goal attempts and 34 of his 37 extra points en route to his first and only Pro Bowl nod.
As also noted by Garafolo, McGaughey remains in his deal with the New York Giants.
