The Carolina Panthers might’ve lost one Camden, N.J. native yesterday when outside linebacker Haason Reddick reached a three-year, $45 million pact with the Philadelphia Eagles. But they made sure they wouldn’t lose another less than 24 hours later.
As announced by the team on Tuesday morning, safety Sean Chandler will be headed back to Carolina on a one-year deal. The Jersey boy, who just happens to be a Temple Owl as well, has spent the better part of the past two seasons with the Panthers.
Initially brought on from the New York Giants practice squad in October of 2020, Chandler did not see the field during his first campaign with the organization. That changed in 2021, where he amassed 48 combined tackles and a forced fumble while starting in seven of his 15 games.
The 25-year-old sticks around as a much welcomed piece on both the defense and special teams. Carolina, who also has plans to ink fellow safety Xavier Woods, could be losing a pair of key presences in their secondary with cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore and Donte Jackson still out on the open market after having already cut A.J. Bouye loose.
