It might’ve taken a bit longer than expected, but the Carolina Panthers have locked in one of their newest targets.

As announced on Tuesday, the team has officially signed second-round pick Jonathan Mingo. The 22-year-old wide receiver was taken with the 39th overall selection of the 2023 NFL draft.

A Brandon, Miss. native, Mingo was a four-star recruit out of Brandon High School. He received offers from the likes of University of Georgia and Auburn University, but ultimately stayed local with the University of Mississippi Rebels.

He’d spend four years in nearby Oxford, amassing 112 receptions for 1,758 yards and 12 touchdowns. That final year saw him earn a nod to the All-SEC Second-team after going for 861 receiving yards and five scores.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder was the fifth wideout taken in the draft and first of the second round. He followed Seattle’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Los Angeles’ Quentin Johnson, Baltimore’s Zay Flowers and Minnesota’s Jordan Addison.

Mingo slots into a four-year, $8.8 million deal.
