Panthers RB Mike Davis teases teammate on Twitter for holding

To say that Carter “struggled” in coverage wouldn’t be quite right.

The best Panthers player to follow on Twitter at the moment is easily backup running back Mike Davis, who is coming off a strong 2020 season. He routinely made linebackers miss, racking up 32 total broken tackles on top of over 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns from scrimmage.

Jermaine Carter Jr. also had a good year – he eventually replaced Tahir Whitehead as the team’s starting middle linebacker and the defense radically improved after that change was made. Some people think Carter struggled in coverage, though. That’s an idea that he takes issue with.

Davis replied back that Carter does have a habit of holding.

Funny.

To say that Carter “struggled” in coverage wouldn’t be quite right. He didn’t exactly lock anyone down either, though. On the season he was targeted 17 times as the nearest defender, giving up 12 catches (70.6%), 134 yards and a 93.7 passer rating. Not great. Not terrible.

Carter has one more year left on his contract and should be given the opportunity to start again – or at least compete if the Panthers draft a new potential Mike linebacker.

Davis will come a free agent in a few weeks though and odds are he will cash in with another team and become their RB1.
