After several reports and days of speculation, the Carolina Panthers have officially named rookie Will Grier their starting quarterback for this week’s matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.
The team just held a press conference for Grier, a Charlotte native who says it feels awesome to be starting for the team who grew up rooting for.

As for what to expect, Panthers fans should remember this will be Grier’s first start and that he looked far from a polished QB in the preseason.
Transitioning to the pro game is never easy, even for talented prospects. Grier knows the things that worked for him in college won’t necessarily fly at the NFL level, specifically his deep ball.
Will Grier on preparing for his first NFL start: "A lot of my West Virginia tape is me throwing the ball downfield almost every play. And that's not necessarily going to work in the NFL."

Grier won’t be throwing for 800+ yards as he did one game in high school. Carolina should be satisfied if he shows marked improvement in his processing speed and decision making. Ultimately, the reason Grier is playing this week is because Kyle Allen couldn’t avoid turnovers. If nothing else, Grier has to avoid the same fate.
