We found out earlier today that the Carolina Panthers will not have linebacker Claudin Cherelus for their Week 9 contest against the Indianapolis Colts. But unfortunately, we’ve since found out that he’ll be away for a bit longer than that.
As announced by the team this afternoon, Cherelus has been placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury. The rookie defender, who was already ruled out for the weekend on Friday’s injury report, will now miss at least the next four games.
Cherelus broke into the NFL this past spring as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets. The Alcorn State University product, after spending the summer with Gang Green, would then be claimed off waivers by Carolina and added to their 53-man roster at the end of August.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder has played in six games for the Panthers this season, with all 105 of his snaps coming on special teams.
