Panthers officially rule out Bryce Young, Andy Dalton starting vs. Seahawks

Yup, it’s another backup QB game for the Seahawks

The news is official. After a week of speculating about the health of rookie quarterback Bryce Young, the Carolina Panthers have announced a decision: he’s out. This means backup Andy Dalton will start Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.

This is not necessarily welcome news for the Seahawks. Yes, health-wise speaking, it is unfortunate the No. 1 pick of the 2023 NFL draft will not be playing. But on a deeper level, this means Seattle will have to contend with yet another backup quarterback.

Normally, other teams would rejoice at the thought. Not the 12th Man, who has had to watch their team repeatedly struggle against backup quarterbacks in shocking losing efforts.

Sunday will be somewhat of a double rematch when it comes to backup quarterbacks. Last year, the Seahawks lost to Andy Dalton’s Saints in New Orleans, and they lost to the Panthers led by Sam Darnold in Seattle.

Hopefully, both losses are avenged. But knowing the Seahawks’ struggles against backups, it won’t come easy.
